Gothenburg, known as Göteborg in Swedish, is Sweden's second-largest city and serves as the capital of Västra Götaland County. Founded in 1621 by King Gustav II Adolf, it was initially established as a fortified trading post and has since evolved into a major cultural and industrial hub. Located on the west coast at the mouth of the Göta River, Gothenburg boasts a population of approximately 600,000 within the city and around 1.1 million in its metropolitan area. The city is renowned for its vibrant cultural scene, including the Gothenburg Film Festival and numerous music festivals, as well as its culinary offerings, particularly seafood.
